Covers Installed

Today we finished installing the winter covers and snow fence.  We cover most (but not all) of our greens.  The greens that receive more sun like #1, #7, #15, and #16 do not get covered because we are worried about things heating up too much underneath the cover on sunny days.  This could cause the degradation of our snow mould protection products resulting in uncontrolled snow mould growth which would kill a lot of turf.  We also do not cover the putting green becasue it was resodded to creeping bentgrass which is much more tolerant of winter injury.  The rest of the greens that we do cover are shaded to varying degrees and have high populations of annual bluegrass.  This means that are at high risk for winter injury particularly ice damage.  Hopefully, the winter weather treats us well and we can get off to a running start next spring.  Happy Holidays from everyone on the Greens Department!
