Removing Winter Covers

Cover removed on #3
We have started removing the winter covers.  Yesterday was very warm and sunny and we don't want the plants to break dormancy in the greenhouse-like environment created by the covers.  This was a year where we really didn't need the covers at all but we can't predict that in the fall.  If the forecast for next week holds, we will be starting our spring cleanup of the course.  So far, all of the turf on the course looks good.  We are in the home stretch and it's nice to be outside working on the course again.

Before you ask, I don't have an opening date yet.  It all depends on the weather going forward.  Our average opening day is around the third week of April with the earliest being April 4th, 1981 and the latest being May 4th, 1996.  All I can say at this point is that it will likely fall somewhere between those two dates.  Stay tuned to this blog for the latest updates.  If you would like to be added to a list of members who receive an email when I update this blog, send me an email at cjanzen@westmountgolf.com
