Good from Far....

The new third green continues to improve every day. From the fourth tee, it looks like it should be open already. It is not yet ready however. We are still cutting it considerably higher than the rest of our greens and it still needs to mature some more. We are fertilizing, topdressing, rolling, and slowly lowering the height of cut. David Oatis from the USGA Green Section will be making his annual visit on Thursday May 21st. His opinion on when to open the green will be extremely valuable since he deals with this issue every year. As soon as an opening date is determined, I will let everyone know. We are getting close...
All of the same comments apply to the new sod on the putting green. Again, it looks good from afar. Remember, that sod was installed only 3 weeks ago. If we open the putting green or #3 too soon, they will have to be closed again making the whole process longer - that is a situation no one wants.
The drainage trench in the approach of #3 requires a little more work. Gateman Milloy should be in next week to address this at which time we will sod over top of the trench to complete it. We have never considered leaving it open but we want to ensure it is working 100% perfectly before installing sod.
